He was a man who liked new inventions. In 1809, he decided to build a steamboat, which was a huge novelty at the time. Imagine: a boat that could travel without needing wind or oars to propel it! It was unthinkable at the time!

He exported timber to England. This timber was used mainly to build ships for the British Navy.

Who was this?
His novel entitled Les Anciens Canadiens, published in 1863. The story of this historical novel is set in the time of New France. It tells about life in the French colony through the story of two boys who become soldiers.
