BETWEEN THE TIGER AND THE EUPHRATES
Mesopotamia is located in the Fertile Crescent, at the crossroads of three continents:
- Europe
- Asia
- Africa
This region has two important rivers: the Tigris and the Euphrates. First of all, the land here is very fertile thanks to the silt brought by the flooding of the two rivers.
In addition, the proximity of the rivers allows for the construction of canals that will serve to fertilise the soil and increase agricultural production. All these factors contribute to an abundant agricultural production and an increase in population.
Finally, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers can be used to move around the territory.
The growth in the number of people forced them to group together in city-states.
