Teacher's Scenario

Mapping Local Industrial Connections

Image

Your Mapping Mission
Your mission is to discover and explain the connections in your community to the industrial territories in Québec and the Great Lakes region! You will then be tasked with mapping examples of connections to industry in your community, as well as mapping out example businesses in an industrial territory in Québec and the Great Lakes Regions.

To do this, you will use Cartograf, or another mapping application, which allows you to place various icons (markers) and shapes (zones) on maps, as well as add texts, images, and media to help describe and explain each location. Visit the Help page to learn how it works.

This mapping activity assumes you are alredy learning about Industrial Territories in your course, or that you are using the student workbook entitled Industrial Territory & Local Connections.

When your teacher decides that you know enough about the industry in general, and enough specifics about industrial sectors and industrial territories, your teacher will ask you to:

  • Take at least 5 photos of examples of industrial connections in your town.
  • Start and title your map at a zoom level appropriate to your location and task.
  • Create an appropriate legend.
  • Place at least 5 markers or zones on your map to match the locations of your photos.
  • Attach and explain your photos in terms of industrial connections.

You can then present your map to other students, or share it via a share code or link (see the Help page for how to share).
